Subject: [*] BibTex for the Mac PowerPC 1.0 final

What is BibTeX?

BibTeX is the bibliography handling tool related to the TeX/LaTeX
typesetting system (available on almost all conceivable OS platforms).
When a document is typeset with LaTeX, an auxiliary file (with extension
'.aux') is generated. This auxiliary file contains, amongst other things,
a list of references (to books, articles, research reports, web-url's,...)
cited in the original document. BibTeX takes this list, together with the
name of a style file (extension '.bst') and a list of bibliography
databases (extension '.bib') which are also given in the auxiliary file,
and produces a wonderfully formatted list of references which the LaTeX
system subsequently (and automatically) appends to your typeset document.

Hence BibTeX is really not at all useful without TeX/LaTeX (there are
several freeware/shareware/commercial versions for the MacOS: OzTeX,
CMacTeX, DirecTeX Pro, Textures). It is useful to have a good text editor
which knows about the particular format of LaTeX documents: on the Mac, the
editor Alpha is indispensible in this regard, both for editing and for its
apple-event communication with the various parts of a LaTeX system.

For those who think this sounds a bit too complicated, the benefits in
terms of quality of output (both textual and mathematical) and automatic
generation of all manner of numbering schemes (figures, equations,
sections), and document parts (table of contents, index, bibliography) mean
that many people consider it the _best_ current system for producing
quality documents.

BibTeX for Mac PowerPC Version 1.0 final.

It has no known bugs, however, use at your own risk;
there is no warranty....

This version of BibTeX is totally free.

Subject: [*] Bookmark Organizer 1.1

This is an application that can be used to create, collect, file, organize,
edit, and print Netscape Bookmark lists. It can directly import bookmark
files exported from either Netscape 1.xx or 2.00. Additional Bookmarks can
also be input from scratch. Bookmarks can also be edited and even enhanced to
include a detailed description of internet site the bookmark is linked to and
the resources it contains. The program is designed to index or categorize
your bookmark collection. You can then assemble custom bookmark export files
that can either be imported into Netscape as a new pop-up list in the Bookmark
Menu or open directly by netscape as a hotlinked list of internet sites.
Simply drag an exported file from the Bookmark Organizer onto Netscape's icon
and watch your custom bookmark list come to life. (No HTML programming
required!) Note: This version has been designed for a 640x480 Color Display
if you have a smaller monitor you can request a custom version adapted to your
monitor's size when you register and pay your shareware fee.

System Requirements: Macintosh running system 7.xx with 3MB of free
application memory. It can be run with less memory but the color enhancements
will revert to black and white. (To run it in black and white simply change
the preferred memory setting in the program's "Get Info" dialog box to 1500K.
- This will improve the performance of the program on some Macintosh models
even though it isn't as pretty!)

Subject: [*] Cindy's Newsmailer v1.1d

--Several enhancements and bug fixes in version 1.1d.

Cindy's Newsmailer v1.1d is an offline newsgroup and emailer with many
advanced features, including the following:

1. Sends and receives email and newsgroup messages at times you
specify, and allows you to read and compose offline.
2. Supports background downloading, so you can read and compose
messages while the software is transferring messages.
3. Resizable, colored, scrolling windows, and different color "quoted"
text. The colors are user-settable.
4. Automatic routing of incoming messages to different folders based
on content. This allows you to, say, send all mailing list
messages to one folder, and all "get rich quick" messages to
another!
5. Automatically play a custom sound when new mail hits a folder.
6. Indefinite message retention. You can keep all messages forever, or
expire messages as desired.
7. Address book to store frequently used addresses.
8. Tagline capability to store your favorite signature lines.
9. Form letters feature allows you to write standardized messages that
have wildcards for certain information, such as logonid, name,
date, time, your name, etc. When you choose a form to send to a
user, it automatically fills in these wildcards with the
appropriate information. Use this feature to send standardized
information with a "custom-built" look.
10. Carbon copies, blind carbon copies, and "message received"
acknowledgements.
11. Can use either MacTCP for an Internet connection, or the Apple
Modem Tool with the comm toolbox to use a "shell" account.
12. "Automatic Replies" feature that allows you to automatically
respond to incoming e-mail with certain phrases in the subject
line. With this feature, you can set up Cindy's Newsmailer to
be an "information server", even if you have a dial-up account.

Try it, you'll like it! Requires HyperCard Player 2.1 or higher.

Subject: [*] CmmCGI

Nombas would like to announce the release of CmmCGI for the Macintosh.

Cmmcgi is a cross-platform tool for developing CGI applications. CmmCGI
provides a convenient, safe, and powerful implementation of the Cmm
(C-minus-minus, pronounced "see-em-em") language for dynamic output from
Web servers. Cmm provides the power of C (since it shares the C syntax and
all of the standard C libraries and then some) with quick-and-dirty
interpreted simplicity and strong string capabilites (much like Perl).

Included with Cmm CGI are many sample CGI applications that you may use in
your own pages. You may also use them as a starting point for more
elaborate CGI applications. To try them out, download CmmCGI, or for more
information on CmmCGI, visit .

Subject: [*] Email Snd Replacement v2 For Claris 1.0v3

Here is the Email Sound Replacement v2 patch for the new Claris Emailer
1.0v3 by request. This patch will work only on 1.0v3.

The Email Sound Replacement v2 is an automatic patch that will allow you
to install an alternative sound to the one that comes with your Email
program. v2's sound is a great stereo replacement that says "Your
electronic messages have been retrieved" in a somewhat robotic-sounding
voice.

There are three versions, one for Eudora Light v1.5.4 and for Claris
Emailer v1.0v2 and v1.0v3. The replacement automatically changes your
sound when you drag your Email program on top of it. For best
installation results, you may want to turn off your extensions before
patching. This file can be downloaded here or at the Clixsounds WWW site
at http://www.edmondsun.com/clix/ , along with other replacements and
sound files.

Attached is a binhexed, stuffed version of a major update of LemmingsCheat
(new version 2.0, FAT). I fixed a major bug changed the Help-text and
compiled it as a FAT binary.

Excerpt from Readme file:
___________________________
LemmingsCheat lets you edit the Levels file of Lemmings. This way you can
give yourself more time, climbers, diggers, etc., lower the rate at which
those beasts come or lower the goal (the nr. you gotta save).

When you start LemmingsCheat=00=00=00=00=00=00=02=00 you'll have to locate=
and open the
"Levels" file. Always make a copy of the original Levels file first!
You can open a level by typing in (part of) its name. This is
case-sensitive. Just change any of the parameters using the usual Macintosh
editing tools. Select the "Save" button to save the changes or the "Don't
Save" button to discard the changes.

LemmingsCheat 2.0 is a "Fat Binary", running native on PowerMacs as well as
on 68k =7FMacintoshes.

Mortal Pongbat 1.3

What is it?
Mortal Pongbat is Pong, taken to a whole new level of vicious,
friend-losing fun.

It runs in 256 colors (automatically changed for your convenience) on
any 68030 (or better) Mac running system 7.1 or later, with 1MB of free
RAM. There should be two copies available on this archive, the 68k
version for 68000-based Macs and a PPC version for PowerPC Macs.

Changes from 1.1:
Mortal Pongbat 1.3 contains many changes that were suggested by you, the
user - some even at gun-point. These changes include:
1. Pongalities are now green in color, to help protect against confusion
with a red goal.
2. The little nasty-icky-gross and otherwise disgusting interface quirks
that were reported to me have been sacked.
3. Errors are now studiously reported to you and not hidden from sight
behind the black curtain of...oh forget it - the error messages show up
now, OK?!

Just so you know, I recommend a fast 68030, 040 or PowerPC to play
this game.

Subject: [*] MPW Technicolor 0.9.6

MPW Technicolor is an easily-installed patch to MPW which
provides simple PowerMac-and-68k-native syntax coloring.

New in version 0.9.6:
* Fixed a cosmetic bug.
* Some minor additions for SOM.
* Forgot the "inline" keyword.
* I seem to keep losing the keyword color array resource
('kJai' 128). It's back in this version. Thanks to
all those who reported the loss.

New in version 0.9.5:
* New and updated keyword sets: Perl, PPCAsm, SOM IDL,
and Java.
* Stability. Shouldn't cause crashes.
* Speed. Should be significantly faster than previous
releases.

This will probably be the last significant release of MPW
Technicolor in hack form.

MPW Technicolour 0.9 features:
* CodeWarrior-style keyword colorizing
* configurable, resource-based keyword sets
* Out-of-the-box support for:
- C
- C++
- Fortran
- Java
- Inform
- Pascal
- Perl
- PPCAsm
- Rez
- SOM IDL
* runs in BBEdit, Think C, Think Pascal, and probably any others.

- 1995 -> 1996 in Copyright notice
- Mod for 'beacon set' command
- 'addmenu' mod to allow APRS beacon formats. See online HELP
- Implemented some temporary mods to keep track of sleeping sessions
- Mod by DK2HD:
Allow ^[ (escape), $d (date) and $t (time) in 'param' command
- NET/Mac does NOT support the new Buckmaster CD-ROM's HAMCALL

Subject: [*] NeuroSim 1.0 - A neural net simulator

NeuroSim 1.0 - a freeware Mac application (fat binary)
======================================================

Description
-----------
NeuroSim is a simple neural net simulator. A neural net is formed
by a matrix of connected neurons. Every neuron has a state which is
described with an integer. Every neuron also has a border value, which
equals the number of connections starting from the neuron. When the
state of the neuron exceeds the neuron's border value, the neuron lights
up and sends an impulse to all the neurons it's connected to. The impulse
increases the state of every connected neuron by one. After lighting up
the neuron's state returns to zero.

NeuroSim allows the user to create new neural nets with specified
characteristics and to "play" with the nets by manually lighting up
certain neurons (known as receptors). There's also a demo mode...

System Requirements
-------------------
* a Mac equipped with a 68020 or greater CPU
* MacOS 7.0 or later
* about 500 K of free RAM
* a color monitor
* ObjectSupportLib (only PowerMacs need this)

NeuroSim 1.0 Source Code

Description
-----------
This package includes the full PowerPlant based C++ source code for

menu. Launch applications and documents, execute FKEYs, and use more than
30 little utilities called externals. In a directory dialog, you can use
the menu to select a file or folder. Requires System 7. Some PowerPC code.
Shareware, $10.

Changes in 1.8.3 include: menu items can be made to appear in only a
certain application; new external displaying a menu of KeyQuencer
extensions; enhancements to Find and Memory Map externals; bug fixes.

The Deep Sea beep is a very mystical sound that makes a good choice for a

ring throughout.

Subject: [*] Text Editor Patches 1.7

This application applies various patches to other applications or to desk
accessories. This approach gives more control over conflicts and memory
bloat than extending application behavior by adding extensions to the
system.

The patching process adds certain resources to the application. No
existing resources are modified, so it is easy to remove the patches if
desired. Freeware.

Patches include:

* Make it possible to paste a picture into a SimpleText document. (New!)
* Add a windows menu to any application, even the Finder.
* Add a menu of often-used documents, such as stationery files.
* Add a simple form of word-wrapping to a text editor.
* Make the page-up and page-down keys work everywhere.
* Define keystrokes for various TeX macros (contributed by Juan L. Varona).

Hi Kurt,

This button is a DEGAUSS button. Use it with care. The proper usage is to
keep the button pressed for 5 seconds or more but no more than once in any
10 minute period. (Courtesy Sony PVM-2030 Trinitron Color Video Monitor
operating guide)

After many hours of use you may notice shades of color staying in the
corners of the monitor and they won't go away. Also, if you accidently
place a pair of non-magnetic shielded speakers close to the monitor, the
color goes funny and may stay that way for up to a day or more. The DEGAUSS
button will remove this residual magnetism. When ever you set up the
monitor and do a color purity adjustment (best left to technicians), you
would DEGAUSS the screen first before proceeding.

I have a handheld DEGAUSSING coil which is over 12 inches in diameter. You
wave it around in a circular motion above all sides of a TV set in order to
properley DEGAUSS the unit.

My guess for your mystery jack on the back of your speakers is that it is
either an external line out to go into another stereo system or a line in
jack to use an external signal such as a walkman to power the speakers.

Hope this helps.

I was wondering if other people have had printing problems with the

problems is in grayscale areas. I also have had problems just printing
text and having it look sharp. I have talked with Hewlitt Packard and
they are trying to help me, but they just don't know what to make of the
problem. I have had them send me a new printer once and am to the point
of having them do it again. Any advice would be most appreciated...

In many PIMs and addressbook programs, there's no need to have the letters
A-Z across the header -- if you simply start typing the name of the entry
you're looking for, many programs will go to that entry, just like the
Finder does.

After trying out a number of different PIMs, I settled on CE Software's
WebArranger, and am quite enthusiastic about it -- it's the best program
of its kind that I've seen. Among other things, I've been able to use it
to create a complete wedding planner.

>Does anyone know of a good PIM with an easy search like "Expresso".

I've never used "Expresso", but.. You're a week late. Through last Friday CE
Software was offering WebArranger free. It is an AWESOME powerful PIM. If you
want
an easy search function, its FIND function is very fast, and you can set a
popup menu
with any kind of quick sort and search you like. Its taken over my life - the
ToDo
function is excellent, the contact manager is excellent, alarms are excellent,
the
calendar is excellent (not as many bells and whistles as some, but powerful
sorting
and viewing options). And you can build as many other data types, note types,
etc. as you can imagine. I very, very strongly endorse it - an excellent
program.
The only negative (nothing's perfect) is that it has a steep learning curve at
first
- it took me an hour or so to figure out what was going on. But once I
understood
the interface I kept discovering neat new features. And I forgot to mention
that
it has great capabilities for cataloging and tracking internet sites - its got
some
pretty powerful features on that side, too (hence the name WEBarranger).

Like I said, CE was giving it away free thru last Friday. They may still
have some kind of evaluation copies available at
http://www.cesoft.com/
but if not, I think you can order it there for around 80 bucks - its worth
every penny.

Obligatory disclaimer: don't work for 'em, never have, noone in my family has,
etc. Just think this was the best freebie ever offered on the net.
