The February, and either the August or July Mac Addicts had articles
about doing just this. There is software called Ray Gun by Arboretum, it
is $99 US but it does exactly what you want.
It is available at: http://www.arboretum.com/
Adaptec sells Toast Jam, software for mastering audio CD's, too. That's
available from http://www.ataptec.com
There are a bunch of links at:
http://www.macaddict.com/backissues go to the Febrary link, they're way
behind on getting the backissue info onto the web site.

Subject: [Q] Incompatable Studio Display
I really want the new Apple LCD Studio Display. However, while reading
the fine print on the product discription, it appears that this display
is not compatable with the Powerbook 190, 5300 and 2300.
Why is this? What could be so different about this monitor?
I would really like to use this display with my Powerbook 5300. I have
upgraded the external video card to a third party video card with more
memory. Would this difference matter?
It seems really odd that you can use this display with Mac, PC and RGB
connections but you can't connect it to some these models of Powerbooks.

Subject: Apple Studio Display 15 Color Calibration
I am the proud new owner of an Apple Studio Display 15...Apple's Flat
Panel LCD desktop unit. It is beautiful and ridiculously crisp and
easy on the eyes. However, I'm having a devil of a time setting up a
colour calibration for the LCD since the contrast changes depending
on the angle between the monitor and the viewer. In fact, using the
ColorSync calibration dialogues, where there are the three Apples to
calibrate, I can get different results, even with everything
identical, viewing position, monitor position etc just by moving the
calibration dialogue from one part of the monitor to the other (i.e.
from centre to bottom centre, top centre etc).
So, should I give up with the idea of using the display for
hue-sensitive, colour-sensitive work with photo-editing and
photo-retouching and get an additional analogue tube-monitor for
colour correction? Or am I missing something?
thanks,
Dieder

Subject: CRASH IN WORD 98 SOLVED
Hi, I had this problem with Word 98. It would make impossible to save
the document telling me the disk was full when 100 megs were
available. Problem with the automatic saving option which was
creating lots of version of the document on the disk. Now, it seems
to be OK. Louis

The floppy drive on my PowerComputing PowerBase 200 (low Profile) quit.
(A Sony 2MB Model MPF92A) I would like to replace it, but I don't use
it that much and don't want to pay $150 for a new one. Any suggestions
where I might find a refurbished or use one?

Subject: Need help changing default system icons
I'm running a OS 8.0 on a G3. I've got tons of funky icons, and I want to
use them as the default icons for my system (e.g. when I make a new folder,
I want it to come with a custom icon).
I assumed that the default icons would be in the system file, but when I
opened it in ResEdit, the icons it displayed in the icl8 resource were
old-looking, 2D folders, whereas the default on my computer is 3D blue
folders. If that particular icon resource isn't stored in the system file,
where is it?
Thanks in advance,
Jesse Shaver

Anybody know how to open a PowerMac 6500? No, we don't need to get at
the logic board, we need to remove a Zip Drive (click of death) for
repair (to ship to Iomega).

Subject: PowerWave to G3 card
Hi everyone,
just about made the leap and buy a new G3 (cheap at first, but when filled
with all the SCSI, cables, adapters, usw), I decided to stick to my (old)
Power Computing Power Wave 120 for a while more.
I decided that a G3 update card would be the solution to avoid the $4,000.
Can someone recommend a working G3 card solution on a PPC?
What are the costs and can I install a Sys8.6.1without trouble?
Please attach URLs.
Thank you

Subject: Speed Doubler & Startup Icons
I recently bought a 3 Mac and installed Speed Doubler 8.1.2 not because I
wanted more speed but because of the Smart Replace copyig method.
As soon as I installed Speed Doubler the Control Panel and Extensions icons
that pop up across the bottom of the screen during startup while the square
Mac face is on the screen and before the finder opens - these icon
scattered across the middle of the screen in a higgle-piggle way instead of
being neatly at the bottom of the screen.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
