Subject: [*] ChunkJoiner 2.1.2; concatenates files and more
ChunkJoiner lets you join (concatenate)
any group of files in a single piece.
Select the files you want to join, and drag&drop them onto ChunkJoiner.
You can skip the data up to and including/excluding a configurable text string,
and/or skip the data beyond and including/excluding another configurable
text string,
within each chunk going to be joined.
This is useful whenever you receive long enclosures and your e-mail gateway
splits the messages in several chunks.
You can build digests by adding header, separators, and footer.
You can build setext formatted files.
ChunkJoiner works on any Macintosh, but it
**requires** System 7 or later.
New since version 2.1.1:
Linked with MoreFiles 1.4.1.

Subject: [*] Folder Icon Cleaner 2.0; erase custom icons
Folder Icon Cleaner is a small utility that lets you get rid
correctly of those space and time wasting custom icons, stuck
right there on your folders.
The Finder keeps every folder icon in a separate hidden file.
The known versions of the Finder do not
delete this file when removing a custom folder icon. They only
delete the icon resources from the file. Note that no other
information is kept into these "Icon" files. Folder Icon Cleaner
correctly removes the icon by deleting the file (and by updating
the "Use custom icon" attribute of the folder). No data is lost,
you only gain a little more free space on your disk.
You can even erase every custom folder icon on your disk.
Folder Icon Cleaner can only be used under System 7 or later;
however, it is rather useless on a System 6-or-older Macintosh.
New since 1.1.3:
Completely revamped interface.

Subject: [*] Godot's Faces V1.07 Control Panel
Godot's Faces "attaches" files to your System file to enhance or augment it
with new features such as icons, sounds, windows,
buttons and/or scrolls.
How it works=8A
Godot's Faces uses NO RAM and patches NO TRAPS. There was no reason to
distribute it FAT, since it is not resident and only
makes a couple of System calls on startup.
Why you want it=8A
There are a lot of cool icon sets out there from Copland to Hi-Tech to John
Q. Programmer's Personal, for one. You can just
drop these in your Faces folder instead of dangerous/complicated ResEdit wor=
k.
Another reason is to keep your Sounds and other System stuff (FKeys, etc.)
out of the System file, so you can do a clean
install without losing these things. When you boot with the "Shift-Key" to
disable extensions, you really disable everything
you've changed.
One further reason is to use Face files containing replacement
button/list/scroll/window definition procedures (the things that
draw your windows and buttons), they could be placed in the "Faces" folder
for use with no further extensions needed to your
System.
Included in this release are icons, F-Keys, buttons, scrolls and windows.
These are NOT all mine. They have just been collected
>From the net and/or sent to AKUA so that you can try them out. In the
future, perhaps people may be releasing new "Face" files
containing other system enhancers like buttons, windows, FKEYs and/or
icons. Keep an eye out.

some new capabilities. Also included is the Disable n-up Borders patch, as
well as documentation for both.
Please see the documentation for all your installation questions...a lot of

Also, please note the change of snail mail address. I will be moving in
February, also, and my snail mail and e-mail addresses will change again
then. Please keep your eyes on the mailing list for the new information.
Finally, I noticed that the LW8.3.2 archives accessible through Apple's web
site were corrupt and not able to be downloaded (Anarchie says the files at
that site for LW8.3.2 are 0K). I used the site at ftp.austin.apple.com to
get the new driver.
Thanks to all of you who have e-mailed my about the driver...and my
apologies go out to those to whom I said Open Transport was required to run
this driver--I was misinformed!!

Subject: [*] MyCompare XFCN. HyperCard & Supercard
MyCompare is an XFCN that "compares" two strings and returns an
"analyzed" or "marked" version showing discrepancies between the two.
MyCompare uses three symbols in its return value:
"*" = Indicates a non-matching character in the
test string.
"-" = Indicates a missing character in the
test string.
"+" = Indicates an extra character in the
test string.
EXAMPLE:
TARGET STRING: "Elvis cannot be dead."
TEST STRING: "Elvira can be dad."
RETURN VALUE: "Elvi*+ can--- be d***-."
At this point in its development, MyCompare is fairly strict. It is
case-sensitive and requires that all punctuation, diacriticals and spacing
be exact. If you have a stack or project in which you would rather allow
some latitude (capitalization, punctuation, sloppy typing etc.), simply
convert both strings to upper case and strip out "extraneous" characters
(spaces, punctuation marks...) before comparing. You'll find that with a
little "pre-processing", MyCompare can actually be quite flexible.
MyCompare only recognizes the first 255 characters of input strings at
this point. The next version will recognize up to 30000 chars.
MyCompare is provided as "AnyWare." That is, if you use it, please let me
know by sending "Anything" you have cluttering up your desktop: a poem
you've written, a picture of your dog, a program you've developed, money, a
postcard from your hometown etc. - just something to let me know that my
programs are being used and that they're not gathering cyberdust in a
virtual warehouse somewhere.

PhoneWatcher is a personal telephone manager for your Macintosh and modem.
With PhoneWatcher, you can track when your phone rings any caller ID
information, and make the computer alert you with sounds and visuals when

In order to use PhoneWatcher, you simply need an external modem. If you

of recognizing caller ID. PhoneWatcher has it's own built-in serial port
arbitrators, and is compatible with most other software that wants to use
the serial port (ZTerm, MacSLIP, etc.); PhoneWatcher only listens to the
modem when no other application is using it.

Subject: [*] Quicken 6r2-6r5 Updaters
Apparently, the updater that I uploaded yesterday, "The Quicken 6 Universal
R2-R5 Updater" is not as "universal" as Intuit would have us believe. That
"universal updater" will only update your Quicken if you have the Native
(PPC & 68k) version installed. If you have the PPC version only, you will
need to use this updater. I have also uploaded the 68k version for those of
you without PowerPcs.
Please note that I am not associated with Intuit in any way, so please do
not send me e-mail about this software. I am simply uploading it to Sumex
to assist users who do not have access to America Online (where this
originated). Also note, this updater is useless to you without Quicken 6.
To determine which version of Quicken 6 you have, follow these instructions
(from Intuit):
Before downloading the Quicken 6 Online Banking Updater, please make sure
you have selected the appropriate updater file. You have 3 choices: The
68k version, (for non-Power PC's); the PPC version (for Power PC's), and
the Universal Updater. If you are unsure of the appropriate file to use,
you can find out by launching your current version of Quicken 6.
1. Go to the Apple Menu and choose About Quicken.
2. Press R.
3. At the Environment Display, note the Application Type ('68k', 'PPC', or
'68k or PPC'). This type determines which updater file you will need to
download. If your Application Type says '68k or PPC' please download the
Universal updater.
When you run it, the self-extracting Quicken 6 Online Banking Updater looks
at your existing copy of Quicken 6 for the Macintosh Release 2 and updates
it to Quicken 6 Release 5. Release 5 enables the Online Banking features
and also includes fixes to a few specific, customer-reported problems.
Please read the Updater Instructions after downloading for instructions on
how to update your copy of Quicken 6 to the latest release (R5).

Have you ever seen a sound? Why don't you try it on your Mac? If your
Mac has microphone or CD-input or something like that, You can see it with
SoundVision. SoundVision is probably the fastest sound analyzer for Mac.
SoundVision shows waveform and spectrum of sound at REAL TIME on most of
Macs. You don't need fast Macs like AV series to do real time analysis,
only you need is a Mac IIsi (normal one, 68030 20MHz). Have a try. It's
fun!
SoundVision requires a Mac with 68030, 68LC040, 68040 or PowerPC for the
CPU. A monitor set to 256-color mode is also required, because the
fast-drawing routine of SoundVision only works on this mode of monitor.

Enjoy it!

Subject: [*] String Finder 1.0 (hc)
String Finder is a HyperCard stack that can search in all the resources (or
those of a certain type) in a file for a specified string, and returns a
list of these resources. (It's useful if you want to change certain STR s
or STR#s in a file.)
Requires HC 2.1 or later.

Subject: [*] StripChar. XFCN. HyperCard & SuperCard
Here is a handy xfcn that removes all instances of a given character from
any valid HyperCard/Supercard container or field. If the optional third
parameter is set, StripChar replaces the instances of the "CharToStrip"
with the new one.
This is handy whenever you want to convert delimited data to a different
formt, when you need to control user input (i.e.: Strip colons, commas,
diacriticals, carriage returns from a response) or when you just want to
get rid of an annoying character for whatever reason.
StripChar will work with containers up to 30000 chars in size. It may
work with containers larger than that but, to tell the truth, I've never
tried it.
StripChar is provided as "AnyWare." That is, if you use it, please let me
know by sending "Anything" you have cluttering up your desktop: a poem
you've written, a picture of your dog, a program you've developed, money, a
postcard from your hometown etc. - just something to let me know that my
programs are being used and that they're not gathering cyberdust in a
virtual warehouse somewhere.

Subject: [*] The System Zoo II, a FileMaker Pro database of the Mac OS
Dear Info-Mac,
Here is an updated copy of the System Zoo, our FileMaker Pro v2.1
database that catalogues the contents of the System Folder. System 7.5.2
is included, and descriptions contain information about updates and
conflict reports. We've added many entries and changed the interface to
improve readability.
Please make it a welcome addition to the archive, and enjoy your visit to
the Zoo. You'll never look at your System Folder in the same way again.
thanks,
Caroline and Russ Swindell

Subject: [*] WS Cat 1.0.1, small Wavestation librarian
WS Cat is a Macintosh application (system 7+ needed) that will help users
of KORG Wavestation to manage their favourite sounds and sound banks. It is
designed primarily for the Wavestation EX.
WS Cat can read and write Wavestation sysex dumps in several file formats,
compatible with other Macintosh Midi applications or with PC files (i.e.
raw sysex or standard Midi file).
It can list (and print) the content of the banks and most of the data for
each sound. Banks and individual sound elements (performance, patch and
wave sequence) can be moved to new locations, within or between banks,
keeping all references to other sound elements correct. Individual sound
elements can also be renamed or deleted.
With MidiShare=811.68 (ftp://ftp.grame.fr/pub/MidiShare/), WS Cat can
exchange banks via Midi.
Shareware.

Subject: Font Development Software
I have a friend who is looking for software to create a font based on a
kind of cuneiform writing used in ancient Japan. Being in Japan myself, I
don't have access to all the catalogs I used to receieve in the States and
couldn't find anything that looked right in the computer stores that I
visited here. Basically, he wants to be able to create, from scratch,
images of the necessary characters (essentially the same number and sounds
as modern Japanese kana, they just look different) and assign them each a
keystroke or series of keystrokes to type them out. Could someone recommend
a font-creator program that permits this? Or perhaps there are
cypher-creation programs available?
Reply to the list at your own discretion. I will summarize any private
suggestions or comments for the list. Thanks.
