Subject: [*] 4OP Librarian 1.0.2

4OP Librarian is an application for the Macintosh which allows you to
make up library of voice data for 4-Operator Systhesizer by YAMAHA.
One window has one voice data, and you can open windows as many as you
want. (It's only limited by partition size of the application.) When
this application receives bulk dump MIDI data, new window will open
and show you the parameter. You can keep 32 patches in one file, so
it's easy to replace 4-Operator Systhesizer's internal patches.

Supported Synth :
DX100, DX21, DX27, DX27S, TX81Z, WT11, TQ5, YS100, YS200, B200, DX11 or V50
(I have NOT checked for all of the synth, though.)

Features :
Fat Binary.
Apple Script recordable.
Macintosh Drag and Drop support.
Inline input support for Japanese text.

This application requires :
Macintosh with 68020 or higher / PowerPC
System7 + QuickTime or System7.1 or later
Apple MIDI Manager or OMS (Open Music System)

Subject: [*] Browser Colorsafe 1.2 =?iso-8859-1?Q?=A9?= 1996 Paul
=?iso-8859-1?Q?Ev=E1d?=

Version 1.2 May 31, 96
* Added a color bar to the B_Colorsafe.fh3 file so colors can be copied and
pasted into existing graphic files to fill the color palette
* Fixed a bug in the comments which caused some computers to freeze (go
figure).
* Changed the palette to show colors in a 5x5 grid.

I searched the net far and wide and could find color palettes for Photoshop
and other pixel based graphics programs, but I prefer to do most graphic
work in a vector program like FreeHand and I couldn't find a stock color
palette for browser safe colors anywhere.

As we know, or should know by now, most browsers only use a small color
palette of about 216 colors. So most of the graphics that we create are
dithered on the screen. The colors found in this file are Netscape safe
colors (should be safe for most browsers) and will not be dithered on the
screen.

There are two ways to use this file. Place the B_Colorsafe.BCF file into
the colors folder inside your FreeHand folder. This will put a browsersafe
color library in your color library menu. If you would like to have all of
these colors available on your color palette right away then open the
FreeHand document B_Colorsafe.fh3 (sorry only in version 5 or higher at the
moment). This document is preformatted to the standard banner ad size for
web pages. You can copy the color bar to the clipboard and paste it into
your existing graphic files to automatically fill your color palette.

Subject: [*] Chipmunk Basic 3.3.9

Chipmunk Basic is a freeware old-fashioned Basic Interpreter, accelerated
for the PowerMac, yet still compatible with old 68k Macs running System 6.
Features include support for a simple sprite graphics engine, sound,
MacinTalk speech, MacTCP, AppleScript, Drag&Drop and OOP programming.

Every personal computer should come with a simple, easy to learn, programming
language. Chipmunk Basic was my contribution for the very first PowerMacs.
This version is a both bug fix and new feature release. It is still free
for educational and non-commercial distribution and use (but only for those
who don't believe that using the BASIC language causes brain damage. :-)

Chipmunk Basic only comes with a man page and a quick reference to the
Mac specific functions. The language is mostly compatible with books on
programming in BASIC that were written between 1978 and 1990.

Permission is granted to include this version of Chipmunk Basic on CD-ROM
compendiums of the Info-Mac and UMich archives. Please replace older
versions of Chipmunk Basic that are in the archives with this version.
Please make sure that any redistribution includes the documentation.

Please send bug reports to . Updates and docs
are at the Chipmunk Basic Home Page .

Shortened version history:
Version 3.3.2: fixed sprite turn bug, added Quicktime midi sound
Version 3.3.4: added exit while/for statement, pset, inputbox
Version 3.3.5: fixed integer rounding; added menu cmds, random file i/o
Version 3.3.7: fixed rsrc file use, added "COM3:" to use serial driver
Version 3.3.9: fixed renum bug, added appleevents

Subject: [*] Filelock 1.3.2; file-folder-disk locking/unlocking.

Filelock 1.3.2 is a Drag&Drop application which locks/unlocks anything!

Filelock 1.3.2 can lock/unlock, within few seconds, all files,
disks, folders (even nested) dragged. It locks unlocked files and unlock the
locked ones, but supports Drop Keys: all files dragged will be locked by
pressing Option key, instead, by pressing Command key, all files will be
unlocked.
Also Filelock 1.3.2 supports the dragging of multiple items, is able to
work in background and tracks the command-period/escape-key typing.

The Filelock 1.3.2 package contains a version for 68K Macs and a version
for Power Macs.

It requires at least System 7 to run.

New since version 1.3.1:
Correct a little bug, so the PowerPC version is now completely working.
Improved the registration procedure.
Improved many code's parts.

FileT&C 2.0.2 is a Drag&Drop application to change file type & creator..

It's very useful for normal use, but is really cool when works, quickly,
with a lot of file, therefore supports the dragging of disks and folders
and works fine and fast in background...
FileT&C 2.0.2 has some useful drop keys to change, on the fly, using the
preferred type and creator set in the preferences and skipping the "Request
Dialog" .
Also you can instruct FileT&C 2.0.2 to skip, during its performance, some
file type.

The FileT&C 2.0.2 package contains a version for 68K Macs and a version
for Power Macs.
It requires at least System 7 to run.

Correct a little bug, so the PowerPC version is now completely working.
Improved the registration procedure.

Subject: [*] Splitter 4.0.2

Splitter 4.0.2, as the name suggests, is a program that splits text files.
Resource forks are completely ignored, so it is best not to use Splitter
on files with resource forks. Just text, please!

You can choose to segment the file into chunks of any size you desire or
you can fill disks with segments.

Splitter requires MacOS 7.0 or higher and is Apple Event friendly.
Splitter contains no PowerPC code, but works just fine on Power Macs.
(MacNerdNote: Splitter is nearly all File Manager calls, which are
still not PPC native, so Splitter gains no benefit by going native -
I timed it myself. Maybe Splitter will go native when Copland shows up.)

4.0.2 contains yet another bug fix, this one makes Splitter not leave
out text at the end of large segments.

Splitter is freeware and may be freely distributed as long as the
file "About Splitter" is included.

running off of the pre-ARA System Folder.

[Check your network control panel to make sure that Remote Only is _not_
selected. I remember I had the same problem when I first installed it.--Mike]

Subject: help with sticking keys?

G'day

I have a standard keyboard that came with my performa 400, and the keys
are sticking pretty badly. Some of themjust stay down after being
pressed, and I have to prise them back up with a pen....keys like i,
space, and return, so it is getting very frustrating.

My room is pretty cold....around 12 degrees celsius.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I use Personal MacLAN to work with the PC's at my office. It allows _one_
PC to talk to up to five Macs over a network connection. The network is
thin ethernet using Windows for Workgroups to run the network. MacLAN will
also allow the Mac to use a Postscript printer connected on the network
(which I don't have--the money people said that the PC's didn't need
postscript).

I loaded MacLAN onto the PC which for all real purposes acts as the server.
It is suppose to be a peer-to-peer network, but the printer is run off this
PC, and all the data files are kept on the hard drive for the sake of
inexperienced staff being able to find their files--they still "lose" them
on just the one hard drive!

Anyway, MacLAN does the job very well--sharing files between Mac and PC. I
can open the PC, locate a file, and open it directly from the Mac, with the
appropriate application, without the file ever touching the Mac's hard
drive.

Subject: parking a hard drive?

I have an external HD on my Mac, and another on my old Atari ST.
Before turning off the Atari, I've been told to run a small utility to
park the head on the external HD. Does my LC575 do this for me at
shutdown? Do I need to wait for the LC to switch itself off before I
switch off the HD? This would be a pain, since my LC scans for viri
(?) before turning itself off. Thanks!

Subject: Remote POP access

Thanks to the many people who responded to my query re. using telnet to
access a remote POP account. Quite a few pointed out something that I did
not know: that I could use Eudora to access the remote account instead of
messing with telnet (and several also told me how to handle multiple POP
accounts with Eudora*). I was under the impression that Eudora would only
access the local POP account on my ISP. I will gladly try this forthwith!
Thanks!

(*The key here is multiple settings files and double-clicking the one you
want to use when launching Eudora.)

Once and for all:
DO NOT INSTALL SYSTEM 7.5.3 ON YOUR PERFORMA; it simply doesn`t work correctly
on those machines.
I read an official statement by APPLE INC. in which they "strongly recommend"
NOT to install it. It was published on MACWORLD ITALIA.
I think this put an end to all the discussions about it. Doesn`t it?

TMFOTD is a site I've been running for about two months now, and since
response has been good so far, I thought everybody here might like to know
about it. As the name suggests, I upload a short description of a neat or
useful mac program everyday, along with some information (size, version),
and a link to download it. For those of you who don't have access to the
WWW, you can email [email protected] with the subject "FOTD Info", and
I'll send you back info on getting The File Of The Day by Email.

Subject: Type 11 and Fetch 3.0.1....

Hi list,

I have a "new" problem--it seems that I can no longer use my Fetch 3.0.1
program because every time I try to open it I get a system bomb dialog box
that says "Type 11 error" and then the program unexpectedly quits. I
cannot get Fetch to run at all now.

Any suggestions? For the time being I am getting my FTP files via
Netscape, but I'd really like to be able to use Fetch again. I have been
running 7.5.3 on my Performa 6300CD for over a week now and have been able
to access Fetch up until today. There have been no problems leading up to
this that I know of.
