Subject: [*] Audio Strip GH 1.3.3 - Audio CD Playing CS Modules
Generally Helpful Software presents: Audio Strip 1.3.3
cost: part free, part encryptionware ($10 US)
author: Glenn R. Howes
requires: System 7, A CD ROM drive, Control Strip (or compatible)
Audio Strip GH is a set of Control Strip modules for Macintosh which
facilitate the playing of audio CDs through an attached CD ROM player. You,
the user, can build your own personalized CD controller with the buttons
you want, and no more waiting for a stand-alone application to launch, the
controller is always right in front, with its buttons available and it's
display information visible.
Changes: Merged the functionality of the time module into the omni module
(you'll have to pay to see the combination). A variety of bug fixes.
Coming soon, a localized Japanese version.

Subject: [*] Capitalizer BBEdit Extension Source Code
What it is:
This is a little BBEdit extension that I wrote for myself, and I'm
giving it away for free! I used the sample extension called
"Capitalize" that came with BBEdit, and made it a little more flexible.
Now it will handle more capitalization chores.
What it does:
* Have you ever wanted to change a whole block of text from uppercase to
lowercase?
* Have you ever wanted to quickly change a title to an appropriate title case?
* Have you ever needed to uppercase a bunch of words at once?
Have you? And did you really want to re-type all that stuff yourself?
No?
Well then have I got an extension for you!
The Capitalizer will let you do all of that, and a little more!
Capitalizer is a utility that allows you to change the case of text in
a selection in various ways. You can change all selected text to:
* UPPER CASE
* lower case
* Title Case
* Sentence case.
If you're like me, and I know I am, you'll just love it!

Subject: [*] eLetter 1.00
eLetter is a Macintosh shareware utility that provides facilities for the
creation and editing of a template letter that may then be merged with data
from
a database and then either printed or despatched via email or fax. eLetter
achieves this by providing a software interface between the database product
FileMaker Pro and either the email program Eudora or one of the Fax programs
FaxSTF, Fax Express, 4-Sight Fax or Faxcilitate 2.1.
eLetter allows the maintenance of any number of 'letters' each of which has
eight
operational parameters associated with it. The parameters define such
details as
the name of the database from which data is to be taken to generate the
outgoing
letters and the name of the database fields from which data is to be taken to
address the outgoing email or fax transmissions.
Requirements
============
a) System 7.5 or later.
b) AppleScript 1.1 or later.
Helper Applications
===================
eLetter uses the following products -
a) Eudora Light (or any version after version 1.5.0)
b) FileMaker Pro, version 2.1 onwards
c) Fax Express 3.1 Vers. 3.0
d) FaxSTF 3.2
e) 4-Sight Fax

Momentum is an addictive game of quick reflexes. I came up with this
idea of balls bouncing around in an arena and you must try and trap the
balls by clicking in the grid to set up walls, which the balls will
bounce off of. The balls follow basic physics properties such as elastic
collisions.

Subject: [*] WabbitPunchPatch, a patch for WabbitDA 1.4.5
WabbitPunchPatch, a patch for WabbitDA.145, was created with Michael
Hecht's ResCompare, using Resedited alterations to Mel Patrick's very
useful desk accessory, Wabbit. You will need an unaltered copy of the
original version, WabbitDA.145, to make use of this patch. Included with
the archive is an Anarchie bookmark...
The patch adds Mel Patrick's current e-mail address (where possible), and
alters the help dialogs a little, but consists primarily of changes to
Wabbit's toolbar icons. I found the toolbar images in the original Wabbit a
little difficult to read, so I replaced them with iconified characters.
All files in the archive have been checked for viruses using Disinfectant 3.6.

Subject: 7100/80AV Sound Problems
I have a 7100/80AV running System 7.5. Recently I have been running
into problems with the sound system.
(1) I cannot get any sound when I play an audio CD. Multimedia CDs
on the other hand work fine. When I open the sound control panel and 'sound
in - options', the source is 'internal CD' and 'playthrough' is checked.
However, this turns on the 'mute' in 'volume control'. The only way I am
able to remove the mute check is by removing the check mark from
'playthrough'. Obviously this results in no sound from an audio CD.
(2) There is no sound at startup. I can get sound after booting by
going into the sound control panel and unchecking 'mute'. So it appears that
'mute' is on by default.
Following are things that I have tried out to no avail.
(1) I reinstalled sound and audio CD player.
(2) I also unplugged the microphone.
(3) Finally, I threw away the 'sound prefs' and 'audio CD prefs' and
went back to the sound control panel to reset things.
Does anyone know what could be the problem and how to solve it ?
Thank in advance.
Sankar.

The only real difference between the 7500/100 and it's replacement
- the 7600/120 is the processor. The 7500 comes with a 100mHz 601
processor on a daughtercard. Replace that with the 120mHz 604 processor
and you have the 7600.
Although it may not be extremely helpful, look at what system is running.
The 7500's minimum OS is 7.5.2 with enabler 701 v1.2 while the 7600 runs on
a minimum of 7.5.3. There are also a number of utilities posted at
info-mac that will examine various parts of your system such as TechTool
and Gauge Series.
As for Apple System profiler, the most recent version, I believe,
is 1.0.1. The 1.0 version came before the introduction of the 7600 and
would therefore, logically, view it as the 7500. Get yourself a copy of
1.0.1 (or later version if there is one) - both it and the 7600 were
released in April of this year.

Fellow IM'ers,
I am having a consistant Netscape crash while trying to interact with
BMG's Website. I get an "The application 'unknown' has crashed
because of a type 1 error" message occuring at random times, but
always before I can wrap up a purchasing session. I am on a IICi with
8 meg of RAM, running System 7.1 . When this first started, I was
running Netscape 2.0 . I am now running Netscape 2.02 . I cannot run
any new version because of RAM limitations. Any input as to how to
fix this greatly appreciated. I'm at a blank wall. I've removed
extensions, startup files, etc to no avail.
I upgraded to NS 2.02 thinking this was a Javascript problem, as the
site is a JS environment. Now I'm thinking it's due to a lack of
memory. I am open to suggestions (I'll be getting more ram after my
wedding Aug 10th. Those married among us can understand why the wait
!!!)
Thanks in advance

Or don't. I find it much easier to use Eudora to read the digest now with
the digest as a Eudora mailbox. Then again, I might be a bit biased. But I

Subject: How to revive FreePPP connection?
I have upgraded from MacPPP to FreePPP with overall satisfaction.
However, one thing that I haven't been able to do with FreePPP that I
was able to do with is MacPPP is to reestablish a PPP link after
rebooting my frozen Mac. Under MacPPPand after rebooting, if the
modem indicated that it was still in contact with the remote site
(which had been talking PPP) I could launch MacPPP using a terminal
session (instead of my usual script) which I would immediately close
-- MacPPP would resync with the remote PPP and assume the "connected"
state and be usable. I have not been able to do this under FreePPP.
Any hints? Thanks.

Subject: Want OpenDoc 1.1 - Call Microsoft??!!
I was just on the phone to Apple Computer (1-800-SOS-APPL) and I was
advised to ask MICROSOFT(!!!) if they have a downloadable version of
OpenDoc 1.1!!! Does anyone have ANY idea what is going on here!
My request was made to Apple because I am attempting to explore the OpenDoc
technologies on my 68k (Performa 640) and Cyberdog 1.1b2, the current
version, is claiming to run on it... The only caveat is a very clear need
to pre-install OpenDoc 1.1. So I went a-hunting... No luck via apple.com
etc, etc... so I called for some direct assistance... After consulting
off-line for a minute or so she advised me as follows:
1) OpenDoc version/availability info is not available to her.
2) Call my local ISP?!?
3) Call MICROSOFT!?!
I had "Barb" repeat these instructions again... She certainly seemed to
understand my confusion about the MS part... but she INSISTED... she
"doesn't get into politics" and repeated her instructions once again...
"Thank you for calling Apple"...
I'm interested in (and bemused by) the MS connection, if any... I also
would like to try out the cyber pup...
Any private response to this post might be kept in strictest confidence
(but don't bet on it)....
