Subject: [*] CacheSaver 1.0.1
This is the first public release of CacheSaver, a shareware control panel
designed to periodically flush the Mac's disk cache to minimize data loss
when your Mac crashes.
Like many people, you've probably found that increasing the size of the
disk cache in the Memory control panel can improve the performance of many
applications, especially web browsers like Netscape Navigator. The disk
cache speeds up disk input and output by keeping the contents of files in
RAM, rather than immediately reading or writing them on the disk.
The problem with using a large disk cache is that when you save
information, the data may end up staying in the cache for quite a while
before it really gets written to your hard disk. If your Mac crashes
before the cache gets saved, your data is lost.
CacheSaver addresses this problem by periodically saving (or "flushing")
the disk cache, thus minimizing data loss should your Macintosh crash while
you are working. You can set CacheSaver to flush the cache whenever your
Mac is idle for more than a specific amount of time, or it can do it
automatically at regular intervals. CacheSaver also provides a hotkey so
you can flush the disk cache manually.
In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates are
available at:
This program may be included on the Info-Mac and Umich CD-ROMs.

Subject: [*] Classic Gin Rummy 1.0.2 - A New Game from Soul Fry Software
Are you=8A
Tired of playing solitaire games (and not winning)?
Looking for a relaxing card game to switch to while your spreadsheet
recalculates?
Ready to be challenged by an opponent who shows no mercy?
Soul Fry Software is happy to announce that we can cure all your needs
(and/or obsessions) with Classic Gin Rummy - the Macintosh
implementation of the popular and addictive two-player card game.
With a clean, uncluttered, and true-to-life interface, play against the
mere wimp of a Gin player featured in this unregistered version (but
don't take it personally if you still lose). Then spring for the
fully-registered version ($12 or $14 depending on delivery method) and
take on a "regular guy," or a merciless, cold, calculating opponent
whose only purpose in life is to strip you and your family of all
dignity.
Classic Gin Rummy plays on all 68020 or better Macs (including
PowerMacs), looks great in 256 or 1000s of colors (and plays in 2-16
colors, too), and offers many customizable features of game play. It
takes up only a meg of disk space and boots up in 1900K of RAM.
Been awhile since you shuffled the deck for a game of Gin Rummy? Check
out the included "Guide to Classic Gin Rummy" - it'll get you up and
running in no time.

Subject: [*] Count WWWebula CGI 1.3.1
Count WWWebula is a Macintosh CGI for use with WebStar, Boulevard,
NetPresenz, or MacHTTP 2.2. (i.e. a Macintosh WWW Server). (READ: THIS CGI
IS *NOT* FOR UNIX MACHINES, NOR WILL IT RUN ON ANY UNIX INTERNET SERVICE
PROVIDERS' WEB SERVERS)
Count WWWebula is a graphical access counter. It will display the number of
"hits" your web page has received in the form of a gif image.
Count WWWebula was created using Greg's PowerPlant CGI Framework, which in
turn was based on Grant's CGI Framework, as a shell CGI application. It
was written using Metrowerks Codewarrior C++ and PowerPlant, so it is
blindingly fast. The installer will install either a PPC version or a 68K
version, depending on the machine you run the installer on.
Many changes have occured since version 1.2.3, please update any previous
releases you may have.
*** 1.3.1 Changes
* Fixed the installer from 1.3
* Written in PowerPlant, so it's easier to keep up, add features/etc.
Also, it feels more stable and seems friendlier to other applications and
the System. Draw back is that it's a little bigger, requires a little
more memory, and only runs on 68020s and above (including PPC of course).
* Stable SIVC code. (***Finally!!!!***) Now uses the SIVC engine, so that
the CGI no longer contains SIVC code... the engine will sit in your system
folder, and receive events from SIVC supporting applications. I'm the only
one that I know of that supports this so far, but Peter Lewis has expressed
interest in it; so it's possible Anarchie 1.7 (or whatever) will also be
using the same SIVC engine, along with NetPresenz, and others.
* As a result of the new SIVC Engine, you can now cancel SIVC queries,
instead of crashing if the SIVC Server is down.
* Counter core source code has been cleaned out, and is now a C++ class.
This will make it easier on me when I make a WebStar plugin.
* Preferences dialog's interface changed to be easier to understand and
use less screen real estate for small monitors.
* Smokin' 3-d interface.
* Several bug fixes is Counter code, as a result of the complete rewrite.
* The log is now more informative.
* File heirarchy change. Now uses less files/folders, and is more compact
since all the data files are located in a single folder.
Additional counter digits, an FAQ, more documentation and information, as
well as current versions can be found at:

Subject: [*] File eXpress 1.2v0 - ready and able!
File eXpress allows you to send any file on your Mac to any other machine
running File eXpress just by "dropping" the item to send on a mailbox
icon in the Finder. File eXpress also creates a single "Inbox" folder on
your desktop where you'll be able to quickly access items sent to you by
other File eXpress users.
This release provides a drag-and-drop interface for asynchronous document
transfer services over BOTH AppleTalk and TCP/IP networks, along with
built in compression to optimize your file transfers. This Shareware
release is a fully functional version of File eXpress system that
supersedes 1.1v0 in addition to the "d" (delta) and "b" (beta) release
suites. Included with this release are a PDF version of the User's
Manual, a suite of examples that make use of File eXpress, and an
FX*Extractor utility that can pull individual items out of a Package
file.
Changes since the 1.1v0 release include some fixes for very rare but
important networking bugs and a new build using the latest version of
Metrowerks CodeWarrior with full optimizations on - tres hep. Further,
and most importantly, this release no longer presents a "Yikes, an
unregistered copy!" dialog box for unregistered copies of FX - in essence
unlocking all of the FX features for all users. This version of File
eXpress may be used for any non-commercial purposes without being
registered.

Subject: [*] HTML Markup 2.2 - The Ultimate Text to HTML Experience
KlepHacks Shareware announced today the availability of HTML Markup 2.2,
the latest version of the ultimate text to HTML experience. Among other
new features and fixes, the new version offers AppleScript support,
bringing a new dimension of power to the flexible HTML conversion tool.
HTML Markup has been one of the leading HTML conversion utilities for the
Macintosh for over a year. Each successive version has been the result of
user feedback. HTML Markup has evolved with the web, and now offers
features like batch conversion, document coloring, headers and footers,
comments, automatic conversion of lists, and much more.
Version 2.2's support for AppleScript brings new flexibility to the
program. Sample scripts included with the program show how HTML Markup
can be used from within a text editor like BBEdit 4.0 to streamline the
HTML authoring process. Other sample scripts show HTML Markup used with a
CGI script to serve up text files on the fly. HTML Markup's scripting
dictionary provides a complete interface for scripters to extend the
program. Users can customize how files are converted by post-processing
their files with AppleScript.
With the arrival of the new version, KlepHacks Shareware is also
announcing the "Made with HTML Markup" program. This program, designed to
highlight the various sites aided by HTML Markup, encourages Web Masters
to place a small "Made with HTML Markup" logo on their sites. Pages with
this logo are added to the index of HTML Markup pages. Each logo is a
link to this page so in effect, everybody who participates in the program
is helping everybody else attract people to their sites. Furthermore, one
site or page will be selected each month (based on content) to be
featured on the HTML Markup home page, which gets thousands of hits per
week! More information about this program is available from
HTML Markup 2.2 is available immediately for download from:

Subject: [*] i++ for Newton (engl. binary)
With i++ you can extent/customize the menu shown when tapping an
"i-Button". Menu items can be included to open applications (without
opening the extras drawer - frozen packages are activated on the fly and
refrozen again after they are closed) or to invoke other special actions
(like changing the screen orientation).
Those info buttons are present in most Newton2.0 applications, since it
is a standard component of the 2.0 user interface. So "your" special
purpose menu will be reachable in most situations without getting in
your way when you do not need it.
In my opinion i++ is a "natural" extention of the Newton2.0 user
interface.
Since V1.10 i++ can be extended by other applications. The first one to
use this feature is AddressAccess (since V1.50): it adds three special
actions to i++ (add new pertson-card, add new company-card, open
built-in names file).
Please note: i++ does not support Newton1.x systems!

Hello everyone,
this is version 3.0.1 of IIe, an Apple //e emulator.
THE SOUND BITE:
Do you wish you could use all of your Apple II software on your Mac? Well
now you can, with IIe, the Apple //e emulator for Macs and PowerMacs!
THE ELEVATOR STATEMENT:
IIe is a fully functional Apple //e emulator that supports all of the
graphics mode, all of the Apple //e keyboard keys, and all of the
currently available Apple II disk image formats. You can even access your
3.5" Apple II disks from your Mac's floppy disk drive! This version can
also access any ProDOS partitions on your Mac's hard disk, and it can
even save ProDOS files directly in any of your Mac's folders!
REQUIREMENTS:
This program works on all colour-capable Macs and PowerMacs. System 7.0 or
later and the Thread Manager is required. A PowerMac and System 7.5.1
(which has the Thread Manager built into it) is the recommended platform
for this program. Warning: this emulator's performance is poor on 68020
Macs. Performance is adequate on 68030 Macs. 68040 and PowerPC Macs will
get good performance from this version.
The Apple //e ROMs are NOT included. Instructions for transferring or
obtaining them are included however.
This version fixes a few bugs in v3.0.
Please see the included Read Me files for all the details.
IIe 3.0.1 is shareware.
Enjoy,
Vincent.

Subject: [*] MIDex -- a BBEdit extension
MIDex is a BBEdit extension for doing character set translation.
It contains translation tables for Mac ISO Latin-1 (8859-1) and
Mac DOS (Code Page 437).
The conversion can be done in place, to a new window or the converted
text can be copied to the clipboard. If there is a selection, MIDex
will act on the selection, otherwise it will process the whole window.
This archive contains two extensions:
* MIDex 1.2.1 simplifies the selection of other tables via
a popup menu. Additional tables can be added with ResEdit.
Version 1.2.1 has the correct file type "BBXT" instead of "BBTL".
* MIDex 1.3.1 is the "tool version" and therefore requires at
least version 3.5.2 of BBEdit. This tool also supports
additional tables.
Version 1.3.1 corrects the misbehaviour of the popup menu.
MIDex is freeware.
The MIDex extensions and the Mac DOS translation tables
are copyright =A9 by Olav Brinkmann.
The Mac ISO tables are from A. Pirard (ULg) - mai 1992.
The Mac -> US ASCII table is from Brian Clark.

Subject: [*] Mikey's Textures
For many months now I have enjoyed watching people post various Macintosh
Shareware Files. This is my first attempt on joining in. I have created 25
textures that I wish to release as shareware.
These textures are designed to give an extra flare to Web Pages. They were
created with Adobe Photoshop 3.0.5 and KPT.
I feel that $5.00 is not much to ask for. If you pay for them, you can use
them however you like... just as long as you don't sell them. If you are
also a poor Shareware designer like me, we can make a trade.
Example... You are making an outstanding 3D shooting game but you need some
textures for the walls. You see something you like in Mikey's textures...
you give Mikey a free copy of the game.
This is basically a litmus test that will determine my future as a
shareware designer. There are other products I might release... if support
is good.
Thanks for downloading

This is a collection of desktop patterns for the Mac. They range
anywhere from silly cow heads, camoflauge patterns, crazy artsy stuff,
3d effects, columns, etc. This is a Bin-Hexed self-extracting archive.
Each pattern is saved as a "clipping" with the most descriptive titles I

These patterns and any new addtions can be found on my web page , also

Subject: [*] Netscape Patch
Netscape is a great Web Browser that suffers from a boring corporate
appearance. Especially annoying is the corporate logo 'N' in the upper
right-hand corner used to indicate network activity. Fortunately it is
easy to change this to something more creative. There are many different
replacement images (known as 'Throbbers') available on the Web. However,
beginning with Netscape version 3.0 the resources for the Netscape 'N'
are stored as ic18 resources. In pre-3.0 versions this information was
stored in cicn resources. This means that older throbbers will have to
be copied into ic18 format to be used with post-3.0 versions of
Netscape. This is not difficult, but it is tedious. That is what I have
done with this patch (the first that I am aware of).
This patch should work with any version of Netscape 3.xx (it will not
work with earlier versions). It was created using version 3.0b6a. If you
have problems try changing the name of your copy of Netscape to:
Netscape_3.0
If this patch won't work with your version of Netscape 3.x and you are
comfortable using ResEdit you can use the enclosed ResEdit file to paste
in the new resources manually by following these steps:
* Quit Netscape if you're running it. (Print these instructions first or
take notes!)
* Run ResEdit. Open the throbber file & Netscape.
* Click on the ic18 resource in the throbber file. Copy it with command-C.
* Click on the ic18 resource in Netscape. Paste with command-V.
* A dialog will pop up asking you if you want to replace resources with the
same ID number. Say "yes" to this dialog.
* Save Netscape.
* Quit ResEdit & restart Netscape.
* Enjoy your new throbber.
The usual cautions when using resedit apply here, in particular always
be sure to have a backup copy of your original program in case anything
goes wrong. Never work on your only copy!
This patch worked well for me, and should work fine for you, but I take
NO blame for anything bad that might happen. The patch is freeware and I
wrote it for the fun of it. Life is an Adventure. Deal with it, pink
boy!

Subject: [*] PowerReplace 5.2; a text conversion utility.
PowerReplace is a powerful text conversion utility using the Drag/Drop
technology.
It can replace character (including NULL, CR, LF, TAB) and string by any
other string.
By use of the asterisk-sign(*) representing any indeterminate string,
it can replace also a string only whose two extremities are known.
It supports all character set, hexadecimal string and Unix regular
expression(pattern) for Find/Replace.
PowerReplace can create small stand-alone daughter-application called
"SelfReplace",
who makes your favorite conversion more easily and efficiently.
Version 5.2
Bugs fixed:
- Fixed a bug which could cause losing of input file in the previous version,
if the name of this input file is too long (>26 characters)
and "Replace input file" option is selected .
- Fixed a bug causing that, rarely of course, it doesn't save the output file
after conversion in the previous version.
- This version works correctly if the filter file is locked.
New features:
- Added support for undo typing.
- Added support for automatic alignment in editor.
When you click "Check Syntax" button, it will also align the filter file text
as two columns. You can disable cette option via menu "Edit/Text Option".
- Use of temporary memory. PowerReplace 5.2 uses all the available memory
on your mac as temporary memory to works. You shouldn't have to increase
PowerReplace's memory partition for large input files.
- Added "Technical Doc".

* Compatibility with the release version of LaserWriter 8.4
as well as the WWDC beta. The PRFS resource now has more
than 8 active items necessitating a larger dialog box. Some
items in this dialog can now be controlled from the multipage
Print dialog and the new settings saved so these have been
removed from Printer Defaults.
* Some QuickDraw GX compatibility . Printer Defaults will
now change the default paper type stored in the QuickDraw GX
extension, and also the 'PREC' 0 resource in GX printer drivers
to maintain backwards compatibility with classic QuickDraw
printing.
* Chuck's Printer Driver has been added to the list of drivers
which must first be selected in the Chooser before Printer
Defaults can be used.
