Subject: [*] Bubblomania 1.1
* Bubblomania is a cool action-game, in which you have to catch bubbles using
the pin on top of the screen. There are different kinds of bubbles : bad ones
that you should not catch, bubbles with bonus points, bubbles containing
lasers,
a bomb or an extra pin and a few other bubbles which have much control over the
game. You can move the pin with the left and the right arrow keys, fire lasers
(if you have any) with the spacebar, and explode a bomb with the down
arrow. It's
a fast game, topscores can only be obtained by concentrated and cool players.
* Hardware requirements : Minimal requirements are a 68020 Mac with 256
colors,
a 640x480 screen and 1600 KB of RAM. The game will look much nicer with
thousands
of colors on a fast Mac, but you'll have to give it 2400 KB of RAM. The
game will
work with 16 or less colors, but that's quite ugly.
* System requirements : I think Bubblomania needs system 7 or higher. (I don't
know if it works under system 6, if it does, please let me know.)
* The game is succesfully tested on my PowerMac 6100/60 under system 7.1.2
with
a 640x480 screen. I think that bigger screens are no problem. If you have any
comments, bug reports, great ideas or something else, please let me know.
* Bubblomania is shareware, to become a registered user, send 10 US$ or
300 BEF,
or the equivalent in your local currency, to the address below (only cash
please). The unregistered version will stop automatically when you reach 100000
points. When you register, you have to include your address, so I can send you
the registration code. I would really appreciate this encouragement to keep on
going. You can also send me an e-mail if you want to be informed about future
versions.

AppleScript 1.1 and AppleScriptLib (if you use a Power Macintosh)
AppleGuide 1.2 or newer

Subject: [*] Jade 1.2
Multiple threaded execution and a proprietary virtual memory scheme
form the foundation for Jade 1.2, one of the most versatile JPEG
viewers available for the Macintosh. By utilizing these unique
features, Jade can view JPEGs with amazing speed while maintaining
a small memory footprint.
Unlike most other Mac JPEG viewers, Jade uses the cross platform JPEG
library supplied by the Independent JPEG Group and as a consequence is
much more tolerant of corrupted JPEGs. In addition, it allows Jade to
view images at full size and allows Jade to support the latest JPEG
features (like Progressive JPEG encoding).
To top it off, Jade goes beyond traditional image viewers, allowing
users to route images to multiple folders or applications on the fly.
Other features of Jade include:
-- Support for PICT, GIFf, BMP, and TIFF image formats
-- Slideshow
-- Indexing
new in 1.2:
-- TIFF support
-- Ability to change Finder labels
-- Jade now remembers the size and position of the Filing window
-- Virtual memory scheme now supports asynchronous writes
-- Many other features, performance improvements, and bug fixes
Jade requires 68020 (or higher) or PowerPC, Thread Manager or
system 7.5 (or later) and is Freeware.

Subject: [*] MailRouter 1.03 - rerouter extension for AIMS
Category: Internet software, server extension
Function: Extension to Apples Internet Mail Server. Used for forwarding and
redirecting electronic mail.
ShareWare payment: 1 copy - US$20, 1 site - US$50, world wide -
US$100.
The Avalonia MailRouter is an extension to Apples Internet Mail Server
(AIMS). It is supposed to be running in the background on the same machine as
AIMS, without taking more of the CPU and memory than absolutely needed.
By using Avalonia MailRouter AIMS is extended with functionality to handle many
domains on one single machine. Apart from assigning mailboxes to each user
on the
different domains, MailRouter can also redirect mail based on account or domain
names, handle subdomains, divide users on a big domain to a set of servers and
handle unregistered addresses.
The Avalonia MailRouter is ShareWare. You may try MailRouter out for
free, but if you decide to continue using MailRouter, you must pay a
ShareWare fee:
* To run a single copy of MailRouter on a single machine, the fee is US$20.
* To run an unlimited amount of copies of MailRouter on machines placed at a
single physical location, the fee is US$50.
* To run an unlimited amount of copies of MailRouter on machines inside the
same
organisation, placed anywhere in the world, the fee is US$100.
To run MailRouter, you need a copy of AIMS, preferably version 1.1.1 or newer,
running on a machine with at least a 68030 (or a PowerPC in the PowerPC native
version). For best results the machine should be running MacOS System 7.5 or
newer. Memory usage, depending on the amount of addresses handled, 100-500 KB.
Changes since version 1.02
* Bug fix - the optimization done in version 1.02 resulted in the
messages being handled too fast for AIMS to cope, so big messages got
stuck. No new features.

Subject: [*] Smart Scroll 2.0J - Japanese Version
This is the Japanese version of the Smart Scroll package.
WWW: http://www.bekkoame.or.jp/~jwarford/
Smart Scroll enhances regular scroll bars so they show how much of a
document is displayed in a window. The indicator tab in scroll bars becomes
proportional : If a window is displaying half of a document, the tab will
be half the scrollbar size.
This gives you an idea of how large the document is, without having to
scroll the window to find out. Try it for yourself, it speeds browsing the
Net or going through your email, for example.
Smart Scroll also adds Active Scrolling, which updates the display as you
drag the scrollbar tab. Just release the tab when you see the part of the
document you want: no more guessing where you'll end up!
All scrollbars benefit from these improvements, even those hidden in Open
and Save dialogs. After a few days of Smart Scroll, going back to regular
scroll feels like something is missing !
2.0 12nov96
Added Active Scrolling (original idea by Ken McLeod: Thanks!)
Any number of scrollbars (memory allowing) can now be proportional in the
same application/process (versus only the 20 most recently used)
Application Programming Interface added so developers can make their
software take advantage of proportional scrollbars, and to make Smart
Scroll work as nicely as possible with these programs.
New control panel user interface and icon (with great help from Hans E.
Omli: Thanks!)
Now also in German, French, Italian and Spanish.
No longer crashes when closing the $B%d(Jnag$B%f(J windoid with
WindowShade running.
Scrollbar tab is now correct size in Tex-Edit Plus documents longer than
4000 lines.

Synth MooVier 2.01 (c)Marco Bonasoro, 1994-96. All rights reserved.
Synth MooVier is a freeware application capable of producing 3-D QuickTime
animation.
Its notable features are:
- integrated 3-D modeler;
- high-quality rendering (Phong shading);
- complete control over material properties;
- multiple, colored light sources (point, directional or spot);
- export of 3-D models in VRML format (1.0 compliant);
- control of movie quality (fps) and frame dimensions;
- small RAM and disk footprint.
In order to produce an animation, you have to model the actors in the scene
(by assembling solid primitives) and to define their behaviors over time,
which means you can, in specified temporal interval, modify all their
attributes, as position, dimensions, colors, rendering type; the light sources
can be smoothly turned on or off; and the special actors (like the view camera)
can be managed in the same way.
Hardware/Software requirements
Macintosh model with 68020 processor or better (FPU not required);
8-bit/256 colors video card (16-bit/thousands recommended);
768 kb of free RAM (1Mb recommended);
MacOS 7.x or better;
QuickTime 1.5 or better.
Enjoy,

Enclosed is version 1.2.1 of The Gray Council. This version contains a
number of fixes and tweaks, including fixes related to tab panel content
resizing and targeting.
The Gray Council is a set of C++ classes providing the premiere
implementation of the "Apple Grayscale Appearance for System 7." This is
Apple's recommended grayscale user interface design for today's
applications, consistent with the future Appearance Manager default theme.
The Gray Council includes "adapter" classes for MacApp and PowerPlant that
make it really easy to add the grayscale appearance to applications using
those frameworks.
AGA items provided include: push buttons, check boxes, radio buttons, icon
buttons, scroll bars, sliders, popup menus, little arrows, disclosure
triangles, progress indicators, group boxes, tab panels, gray window
backgrounds and view border stuff.
For publicly distributed shareware or freeware titles, you may use The Gray

So you bought a new Performa, and it had a defect. Isn't that what return
policies and warranties are for? Nobody's perfect. Stuff happens.
Come to think of it, maybe telling everyone you know not to buy a Performa

That way, Apple will just go away, and we can all start buying PC clones,

Is it possible that you want to print a DOS or UNIX PS-File? It then might
be a problem with a wrong TYPE/CREATOR entry for your file. Try getting a
tool like BunchTyper that helps you to easily change these entries (they
define the kind of program and its icons the doc uses). Get the type and
creator of a PS-Doc that is printable with Drop*PS and change the doc you
want to print to those entries. The icon should look the same afterwards.
If you're lucky the file will be printable afterwards. If not, chances are
the file is corrupted.
Sometimes this happens at the beginning of the doc. If you have rubbish at
the beginning of your doc, delete it untill a line starts with % Adobe
Level I or something like that (importtant is the "%" as the start of the
line)

Subject: [A] Uninstaller
Here's another solution for uninstalling obsolete files etc that looks
interesting. Aladdin is releasing a commercial product called Spring
Cleaning this month (street price ~$70).
Here's an excerpt from their press release as posted in Guy Kawasaki's
MacWay . . .
---------
Spring Cleaning's eight utilities search a user's hard drive to safely
uninstall old applications, remove duplicate and unused fonts, find
invalid alias files, trim fat binary applications, find orphaned help
files, and clean out users' Preferences folders.
Spring Cleaning helps to save disk space by tidying up a user's files.
Each utility is designed to search for specific types of files, folders,
or fonts that may be wasting disk space. The utilities include:
MacUninstaller (removes applications and associated titles), Alias
Resolver (repairs invalid aliases), Application Slimmer (slims
applications), Folder Remover (clears empty folders), Font Remover
(removes unnecessary fonts), Help Remover (finds unneeded help and
documentation files), Orphan Adopter (assigns orphans to new
applications), and Prefs Cleaner (cleans out Preferences folder).

Wait a minute, threadslib is a Apple extensions for Power macs, right? I
think it's built in to the system on 7.5.5, but if you check a 7.5.1
machine, you''l see it. Removing it shouldn't be a problem.

This is probably a font-id conflict, from what it sounds like. There are
ways to change the font ID numbers (resedit being one way).

Subject: File Sharing - How do I NOT share removable media?
Uh, is this going to the moderator? I hope so. (Ding dong NETCOM!
HELLO!)
Now matter what I do, I can't seem to get 7.5.5 to NOT automatically
serve removable media. This is a problem that prevents me from backing
up to Syquest drives with File Sharing turned on. My backup software
refuses to back up to the Syquest because there are active files on it
(presumably sharing-related ones.)
I have a Performa 6320 running system 7.5.5 serving files to a Powerbook
100 running 7.0.1. I have a single folder on the Performa that I want
the PB to see - one folder only, located at the "top" of the Performa HD
(inside the hard disk icon's window.)
No matter what I check in the sharing option boxes of the Performa HD
and its folders, the PB sees the *entire* Performa HD and mounts the
entire Performa HD, not a single folder I have selected for export.
When I put in removable media, like a CDROM or Syquest, it
automatically shows up in the PB100's chooser. I don't want this to
happen. How do I fix this? Is there some kind of permission
incompatibility with 7.5.5. and 7.0.1?
One key thing is I am "logging on" to the Performa from the PB chooser
as the user "wms", who is the owner of the Performa. If I log in as
"guest", will be Performa be pickier about what it exports?
Help is appreciated,

It sounds like either your Desktop files or the hard disk structure itself
are corrupted, or there's a damaged file on your drive. I would try the
following:
First download TechTool 1.1.1 (or whatever the latest version is...), and use
it to delete the desktop files, whereupon the Finder will recreate them from
scratch.
If you are still running into problems, I'd go out and buy that early
Christmas present of Norton Tools, as it would appear that your
catalogue/btree files are clobbered or there's a rampant damaged file on your
disk.

ps-I would have recommended MacTools, but Symantec have, in their wisdom,
chosen to dump the better program and go with the cuter interface....

I have a Powercenter 150 w/64MB (plenty for what I fire up) and am having
some problems using CD programs (microsoft's Close Combat and Blizzard's
Warcraft). I have recently updated to System 7.5.5 and Quickdraw GX. The
problem started happening after the install. The computer crashes and
locks up (no error message) when running CD programs. The time to crash
varies from not at all for several hours to numerous times in one hour. I
have an NEC 8X CD-rom if that helps. Any ideas? i'd be happy to send a
list of extensions to anyone who knows what's up.
Please reply via E-mail.
Thanks so much.

Go here:
They've got a series of tools called the "Gauge Series"; one of them is an

Please help with a problem concerning the cd rom on my Performa 550. I
have tried testing for extension conflicts all to no avail. I am able to
listen to music from the cd but when I try to install or play an
application or game I get a message-"the file cannot be read because a
disk error occurred". Other times I get an error 15 or fatal error 36. I
have all the necessary extension files -Apple cd rom, apple photo
access, foreign file access, High sierra, iso 9660, apple audio cd. This
all came about when I upgraded from system 7.1p to 7.5.3.. Thank you

All you'll be losing is the preview, custom icons, and any
application-specific resource data that your app may have added. The
actual image data is still perfectly intact, and can be edited after this
operation just as if you had never done it.
For example, I just saved a small GIF from GraphicConverter. The actual
GIF data is stored in the data fork of the file, and occupies 7382 bytes.
This is the only part of the file that your web browser [or any other
computer platform] cares about. e resource fork of my new file occupies
17360 bytes, and contains:
- Preview PICT
- custom icons for Finder display
- version resource for Get Info box
- a string resource identifying GC as the creator app
- another resource relating to QuickTime previews
All this stuff is useful only on a Mac, and even then none of it is essential.

There should be no implications. If there are I'm sure someone will
inform us. A program that can read a specific type of graphics file
will be able to read it without the resource fork. When you "Save
As...", the image will be saved with a new resource fork. Needless to
say, any image that can be opened with a graphics app will also be able
to be modified (barring some type of encryption, passwordword
protection, etc).

Subject: Truncated/Muffled startup sound
Hi,
I have a Performa 630/350MB/CD/TV which I recently upgraded to
20MB by changing the old 8MB SIMM for a 16MB SIMM.
Ever since I did this I have noticed that (most of the time) the
startup sound is either truncated (i.e. it doesn't last as long as it
used to) or it sounds muffled.
There don't appear to be any ill effects. It boots up OK and works
OK, but it does seem more prone to crashing than it was before,
although that may be a false impression I've got.
Before I go the the extreme of taking the machine apart again, I
thought I would ask the collective brain of the info-mac community
if they have any ideas on what could cause the startup sound problems?
or is this normal? Maybe my hearing is failing
Taking this machine apart is no problem, the problem is reconnecting
everything afterwards. It is connected to just about every
electronic appliance in the house, what with AppleTalk, printer,
TV aerial, SCSI, Monitor, sound in, sound out and VCR, it's like
spaghetti junction back there!
Note, I also have an EZ135 drive connected to the SCSI port, and I
don't always power it up, although I make sure that I turn the EZ
drive on first (while the Mac is powered down) if I am going to use
it.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Steve Smith

Have you tried Maui Software's "Yank"? It's a simple utility that will
allow you to "uninstall" an application and related files, as well as
allowing you to clean up your Preferences folder quickly and easily!
You can get the Japanese version at ,
